The last three days have been magnificent. So I have gotten home to late to ride or get out and walk.
The next several days are expected to be colder and wetter.
I find this a difficult thing to deal with. When the weather is gorgeous I am tied up. When it is lousy I am also tied up sometimes but I don’t mind so much.
Such is life.
To get over this I plan to ride 30-35 miles on Saturday and another 30+ on Sunday.
A 60 mile weekend to follow on the 50 miles I did this past weekend.
This is how I will deal with this.
The weather will be chilly, in the fifties, but it will be tolerable in the sun.
I hurt my hand today. So typing hurts.
Just though I would mention it.
My old and dear friend, SS, sent me a gift. A vegetarian cookbook from 2002. “The Vegetarian Gourmet’s Easy Low-Fat Favorites”. It came in the mail today. I am anxious to dig in to it…
There are two major preoccupations when you are on a Journey such as mine. The first is food of course, the second is activity.
To say that I have changed the way I eat and what I eat would be to understate the case. Certainly if you looked at the way I ate two years ago it would bear little resemblance to the menu I follow today.
That I now have seven or eight vegetarian cookbooks is indicative of the change.
Why did I change so drastically? Simple. If insanity is doing the same thing in the same way and expecting different results then trying to lose weight without changing your menu is insane.
I decided as I moved along in this journey that I had to relearn how to approach my meals and food in general. The cuisine I grew up with, Northern-Eastern European with heavy American influences, is a diet made to create obesity. In my case it was very successful.
So I had to move more to a vegetable and fish based diet and I have done so. Now I am starting to phase down the fish. I can see a day when I will be for all intents a vegetarian.
The reasons are simple. It is a healthier diet, particularly given the family history of heart disease. I can also eat more volume of food, feeling more full and still meet the calorie targets.
And my food is anything but drab and boring.
Hand is hurting too much.
